Identity design and communication campaign

We led a comprehensive design project for Sonae Sierra’s Surprise Card, covering concept, design, illustration, web, window displays, and more.

The Surprise Card is a rechargeable gift card usable in all Sonae Sierra shopping centers across 1,600+ brands. In 2020, we were tasked with reimagining its communication strategy to revitalize the brand.

We developed a fresh approach and a full set of communication materials, giving the card the attention and visibility it deserved.

rebranding + christmas

For the rebranding, we created a dynamic concept using the idea of a shopping spree as a tornado, integrating the Surprise logo into an illustration filled with various products.

The vortex design features illustrated products swirling in a spiral, emphasizing movement. The Surprise logo sits at the center, symbolizing its role in unlocking access to all these items. This visually striking design highlights the card’s versatility and the wide range of products it offers.

For the Christmas campaign, we adapted the vortex into a conical, Christmas tree shape, using it as a backdrop for models showcasing highlighted products in red—representing items bought with the Surprise card.

3d and 2d displays

We designed 3D displays for the Surprise Card with a focus on creativity and visual impact. The card takes center stage, surrounded by illustrated products it can purchase. In some scenarios, products swirl around the card, while in others, they seem to emerge from it, creating a dynamic sense of movement.

These displays feature 3D elements made of cardboard or PVC, assembled, glued, or hung to create a playful, theatrical effect. All displays are illuminated to enhance depth and impact.

We also developed 2D displays for storefronts under maintenance or between tenants, using imagery that creates an illusion of depth on the printed covers.

After launching the redesigned website, Sonae Sierra saw a significant increase in sales. We collaborated closely with the client’s developers to create a custom site that effectively communicates their brand and products.

The website focuses on user experience, featuring a clean, modern design, responsive layout, and clear call-to-action buttons, making navigation intuitive and information easily accessible.

We created a series of animated videos to showcase the features and benefits of the Surprise card in an engaging, visually appealing way. These videos were displayed on screens in shopping centers, demonstrating the card’s use in various scenarios like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and Children’s Day.

By combining animation and photos, we crafted dynamic and entertaining videos that also inform shoppers about the card’s advantages. They provide a comprehensive and engaging overview, helping to make the card’s benefits clear and accessible.

We believe these videos added value to the shopping center experience and effectively increased card awareness among shoppers.
